Kim Lemaux began her law enforcement career in 1982 as an Arlington Police Department dispatcher. The following year, she became a patrol officer and in 1985 was appointed as a field training officer. Lemaux rose through the Arlington Police Department ranks and was promoted to deputy chief of police in 2001. She supervised patrol, central and geographic investigative, crime scene, training, personnel and recruiting, property and evidence, jail, federal narcotic and JTTF task force, SRO, and crime prevention personnel and operations. Her tenure at Arlington PD also afforded her the opportunity to serve as Incident Commander for many events at AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Park, to include Super Bowl events and playoff and World Series baseball games. Among her many achievements at Arlington PD, Commissioner Lemaux said she is most proud of her work in training and with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
Commissioner Lemaux was selected as the Chief of Police for the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) in 2013, where she leads a department of over 130 employees that includes 44 sworn officers and 47 public safety officers. Her primary goal is to provide a safe environment for all students, faculty, staff and visitors in an era when enrollment, the campus resident population and campus events continue to grow and thrive. The UTA Police Department encompasses law enforcement and security operations, police communications, emergency management, and key control operations. Commissioner Lemaux’s vision and focus for the organization includes elevating campus security, providing exemplary service to the campus community, and maintaining excellence through the department’s ongoing CALEA and IACLEA accreditation efforts.
Commissioner Lemaux earned her undergraduate degree in Business Management from UTA and her Masters in Security Management from American Public University. She is the vice president of the Texas Association of College and University Police Administrators and member of the International Association of Police Chiefs, North Texas and Texas Police Chiefs Associations, Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. In April of 2017, Governor Greg Abbott appointed her as a commissioner to the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement. She is honored and grateful to have the opportunity to serve the citizens of Texas in this manner.
